Helping People Help Themselves
El Puente - The Bridge
MONTHLY PLEDGE DONORS SPEAK UP!
Here's how five of them answered the question,
"Why did you become a Monthly Subscriber to El Puente?"
"I met the Stevens' during their visit to our church in Portland, and was impressed by their sincerity and commitment to those they serve. I asked for a private meeting over tea, and became convinced that their approach truly is, as their slogan says, HELPING PEOPLE HELP THEMSELVES. I'm satisfied that very little of what I pledge goes to "overhead"...it almost all gets to those we seek to help. I also like the focus on youth, and working to break the poverty and dependency cycle of these good people. I am honored to play a modest part in their tireless and productive efforts. P.S. I appreciate the regular updates on their programs and progress."

"I love all the work Barry and Nanci are doing and am privileged to have known them when The Bridge was a dream...now it's a thriving reality! More and more kids are going to school every year. With my automatic payment to The Bridge, all I have to do is sit back and read Barry's newsletters....I don't ever have to write a check. It's all done automatically. And when I want to increase the amount...I just increase it on-line and ZAP, they get more money the next payment. If I had to write a check, I might forget but with automatic payments, they are guaranteed my monthly contribution!! To me, it's a no-brainer! Gotta love technology and anything that makes my life simpler while still being able to help others!!"

"It's truly selfish of me to help the kids at the Bridge. There is absolutely no way I can ever pay forward enough to make up for all the help I've been given in life when I needed it. But, it makes me feel good every month when I get my little email notice, and I think about the accomplishments of these kids. They are just living their lives, and have no idea how amazing they truly are. Plus....it doesn't hurt to revel in the thought that I am expressly NOT giving it some hack politician."

"I care for children also. I charge the families and/or the appropriate state agency a fee for the care and feeding of each child. You do not have that convenience. You have chosen to give your own income to the benefit of the children of Costa Rica. I had hoped to move there and become involved in an organization such as yours (actually, once I learned of your work I wanted to become part of it). Life has gotten in the way of my retiring/moving/ changing venues and therefore I am fortunate to continue my work here. If I do it well, there will be a little community of growing Americans who will see the world through kind and charitable eyes; and whose respect for the Earth, its inhabitants and its material resources will ripple out to improve the environment for all they encounter. At this point in time the best I can offer El Puente and its devoted operators is a small monthly donation and I am very happy to do that small bit.

"We love supporting groups that give people a hand up. The Bridge is really there on the front lines, being the "bridge" for the Bribri people to a better life. Whether it is helping them to eat better or sharing a bowl of soup, helping the children go to school or providing assistance in getting legal or medical advice, you do it with your whole heart. Thank you for all you do to make your part of the world a little better.
