SCHOOL PROGRAM This program helps families and children by helping with school expenses, and providing volunteer help with homework. The schools also ask students and families to help with expenses such as maintenance and repair, and we respond as we can. SCHOOL PROGRAM Although public education is free in Costa Rica, there are mandatory costs of attending a public school for things such as shoes, uniforms, books, supplies, and class photographs. The "start-up" expenses total more than $156 per child, with ongoing expenses of nearly $2.25 per week, including charges for exams. The Bridge helps families meet this need. |

HOMEWORK IN THE JUNGLE |
|
The kids in the school program are determined. After an hour and a quarter walk to and from school, they do homework the only time they can--after dark, which comes at 5:30 around here. With no electricity, homework by candlelight is the norm. In this foto, Willi, Alejandro, an uncle, Dad Abelio, Maria, and Baby Catie cluster around the homework table. |
